" TORTUGA "

Classic sailing catboat

The HISTORY

The CAT-BOAT is a typical American boat designed and built in the first half of the 19th Century.
It was first used as a working boat and than for cruising and racing.
With its distinguished profile, the wide beam and strong mast firmly positioned at the extremity of the bow, the CAT-BOAT is an integral part of the scenary of any North American bay from New Jersey to Massachussets.

The stories of the Cape Cod fisherman are a testimony to their passion for this excellent sailing boat: fast, easy to manouvre single handed and steady on course.

All pictorial records dating from 1890 show large flottillas of CATS anchored in the harbour at Vinyard and Nantucket.

Time has not diminisched the appeal of these characteristic boats witch have a large number of fans world wide.

Our Company with the production of " TORTUGA " intends to revive the magic and romantic atmosphere of the old CAT-BOATS.
The most advanced technology and modern materials are intellingly combined with fine woods and exquisite finisches to offer to our Clients an exclusive craft witch gives a unique experience.

COCKPIT

The large and confortable cockpit is suitable for six peoples.
The sail-sheet does not disturb the passengers.
The lockers under the banches are large and provide for a easly accessible storage space.

SAIL HANDLING

All the controls are in the cockpit; the 4 stoppers and the winch allow the hosting and lowering of the gaff and to take the first and second reef without leaving the cockpit.
The " Lazy Jack " supports the boom and contains the sail when lowered.

ANCHOR FOREPEK

The bow well is large and has easy access for the storage of the anchor warp, lines and fenders.

ENGINE

The engine is positioned under the deck of the cockpit in a large sound-proof compartment completely separate from the main-cabin

Checks and maintenance to the engine compartment, is very easy.

CABIN

Everything has been designed for ultimate confort and pleasure; the warm glaw of the charry-wood enanched by creative lighting give a restful atmosphere after a long day in the sun and wind.
Two standard size berths ( mt 2,00 x 0,60 ) are available for owner' rest and best confort

CHART DESK

The chart desk is fitted with a large book-shelf witch can contain books and instruments for the voyage.
By lifting the top of the chart desk you have access to the chart drawer.

GALLEY

Everything in place and a place for everything !
A large working area and sink with foot-pump.
The stove with two fires is located under a lid witch can be closed when the stove is not in use, providing for a working surface.

TOILET

Is large, exceptionally confortable for such size of boat.

SAFETY

Saftey has been paramount throughout the design, in case of collision "TORTUGA" is unsinkable due to the watertight compartments filled with closed-cells polyurethane foam.
